Meet Dr. Tyson

Dr. TysonCynthia A. Tyson, D.D.S., P.A. made her path into dentistry through an unconventional manner. She practiced as a registered dental hygienist for 13 years before taking the plunge into dental school.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 2000.  She bought an existing practice that she previously worked in as a dental hygienist.

Dr. Tyson is a member of the American Dental Association and a member of the Academy of General Dentistry.  Dr. Tyson has studied extensively at the Dawson Center for Advance Dental Study.  The Center provides hands-on-training as well as a series of lectures specifically relating to the masticatory (chewing) system.  Dr. Tyson’s goal is to become a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.  The Fellowship is the only achievement-based award in general dentistry and requires dedication to continuing education.

Dr. Tyson believes she was born to work in dentistry.  As a child she LOVED going to the dentist.  She remembers looking in the drawers and picking up the instruments and playing with her teeth when the dentist was not in the room.  She also remembers the beautiful ring her dentist would give her after her appointments.  But the big day came when she was told she would need braces.  To most normal kids this would have been an unhappy event but for her it was music to her ears!!!  More time in a dental office and more time with someone working on her teeth.

In 2005 Dr. Tyson adopted Seth, the most adorable child from Guatemala.  The house was not complete without the addition of their second wonderful son, Ethan, in 2007.  They are members of Temple Beth Shalom in Cary.  The family is complete with Stella, a standard poodle that is training to be a therapy dog.

Dr. Tyson loves to spend time with her family, enjoys playing (and may be addicted to) Scrabble, crafting, scrapbooking, Pilates and reading.
